Declassified UFO Files: The Most Interesting UAP Sightings and Government Reports

The UFO Files Dropped, and Things Got Weird

You might have missed it—just like spotting those UFOs themselves—but official files have been released on certain mysterious events. You thought aliens weren’t real? Wrong!... Well, maybe. We’re still not really sure.

But I’m here to sum up what has been declassified in what I’ve been calling the UFO Files, and what actually stands out from these newly released UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) documents.

What are commonly called Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) are now often referred to by governments and defense agencies as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs); anomalous meaning something that deviates from what’s expected, describing things that are abnormal. The term UAP has become increasingly common in discussions surrounding government UFO investigations, military UFO sightings, and declassified intelligence reports

Decades of reports on these phenomena have been documented but have remained classified, until very recently.

Last month, on May 8, 2026, the government released over a hundred files, followed by hundreds more on May 22. They’re online for the public to look through and they contain firsthand accounts of various strange sightings from the modern day all the way back to the 1940s.

The files released include military reports, analytical memos, summaries of pilot testimonies, radar/infrared videos, and case files. Few of the documents are reports from ordinary citizens, though there are plenty of those stories out there.

Many of the official reports included observations of UAPs showing speed, behavior, or movement that didn’t come off as typical. The subject of aliens is still a big fat unknown, but the fact is there are many firsthand reports from across the world of things that people simply can’t explain.

Together, these reports contribute to the growing discussion surrounding UFO disclosure, extraterrestrial life, advanced aerospace phenomena, and the possibility of unexplained technologies.

UAP from newly released government documents

Famously Weird UFO Sightings and Unexplained UAP Encounters

The contents of the unsealed files include documents, videos, and audio clips. A number of the cases released have since been given an explanation but many have remained “unidentified”.

I’ve looked through them and pulled some of the most interesting unexplained events so you don’t have to, because like I’ve said, there’s a lot of 'em.

UAP Instant Acceleration

This report from 2021 includes a video clip provided by a military infrared sensor. It shows a dark, glowing object moving steadily but quickly through the sky. It was recorded making sporadic changes in direction before suddenly accelerating so fast it looks like it disappears.

Orbs Launching Orbs

A document from 2023 summarizing what seven federal employees saw in the Western US over a span of two days. These people were in different small groups and witnessed similar things across separate locations.

They observed orange orbs in the sky launching smaller red orbs, which seemed to have happened a handful of times. They also describe the orange orb disappearing quickly while the red orbs would move horizontally, up at an angle, or occasionally swoop down.

This seems to be one of the most compelling cases, though there is no technical evidence, due to the witnesses’ credibility and the events' weird nature.

Gemini 7's Space Mystery

This event happened on the tenth crewed American spaceflight, Gemini 7, in 1965.

The document is a conversation between the crew and the flight center in which they describe seeing a mysterious “bogey” which is aviation terminology for unidentified aircraft. This bogey was surrounded by a debris field of hundreds of small particles.

Crew member Jim Lovell described it as:

"A brilliant body in the sun against a black background with trillions of particles on it."

More than sixty years later, the incident has never been definitively explained.

The Sandia Mass Sighting

In Sandia, New Mexico, from 1948-1950, 209 sightings of “green orbs”, “discs”, and “fireballs” resulted in the 116 page document (largest one) included in the files.

People near this secret military base describe seeing UAPs flying out of sight and exploding. Researchers also found copper residue near sighting locations.

What makes this incident notable is the sheer number of people reporting similar things, giving it more credibility.

Susie get abducted off the original bar

Alien Abduction Stories, Missing Time, and Unexplained Encounters

There aren’t any official alien abduction stories included in the declassified documents.

But much like our friend Susie who was abducted off the original BAR U EAT wrapper and somehow lived to tell the tale, there have been countless reports of alleged abductions throughout the years.

One of the most famous cases and widely considered the first publicized abduction story is the Betty and Barney Hill Incident.

Back in 1961, the couple was driving home to New Hampshire from a trip and noticed something strange.

They were being trailed by a bright light, but the light wasn’t behind them like a car, it was above them and it kept getting closer as the miles went on.

And it kept getting closer.

Eventually that light was directly above their car.

Suddenly they were miles down the road, multiple hours had passed, and they had no memory of what happened in that time.

The next thing they knew, they were miles farther down the road. Several hours had passed, yet neither could remember what happened during that missing time.

They later went through hypnosis therapy to help them recall anything from that missing time, after which they claimed to remember being taken aboard a craft and examined by small, gray-skinned beings.

Whether you believe the story or not, it remains one of the most discussed UFO encounters in history.

Jason hiking in Iceland

Close Encounters of a BAR-Kind

You may know that Sam and Jason built BAR U EAT, but you probably don’t know all the details.

While traveling in Iceland, the two went on a long, exhausting hike, to try and catch a glimpse of the northern lights.

Seeing them requires a mix of dark skies, clear weather, and solar activity.

That night they got all three... and then some.

As they trudged along, a beautiful mix of green, purple, and blue danced overhead.

But they also saw an abnormal glow moving erratically through the sky and then right at them.

It was blinding yet sparks of color were everywhere, and in the middle of the light, a darker oval shaped mass.

Hours later they awoke feeling surprisingly energized despite having no memory of what happened.

The one thing they could recall?

Being handed something soft and chewy, yet crunchy and unlike anything they had ever tasted.

My theory?

Aliens left them with just enough memory of a perfectly crafted snack bar made from whole ingredients, packed with fiber, and a hint of sweetness from dates and honey, so that they were able to make their own to share with the humans of Earth.

And thus BAR U EAT was born.

Nothin’ weird.

Just long-lasting energy, real ingredients, and one suspicious origin story.

The Biggest Mystery of All

There’s limited evidence and missing data; missing pieces of a puzzle that could paint a bigger picture.

The released documents may not have given us the answer to the age-old question of whether we are alone in the universe, no pictures of little green beings or confirmed stories of abduction.

But they do remind us of something important and honestly even more fascinating: there are things out there we still can’t explain and that we don't have all the answers to.

I’m actually glad we didn’t get all the answers—it keeps the mystery alive, allowing space for imagination and speculation (and don’t we all want a little mystery in our lives?).

So, no, we didn’t get the proof that aliens exist.

But did they release enough weird stories to keep UFO and alien enthusiasts busy for the next decade? Definitely.

The real question is…with flavors out of this world, should we expect more Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena showing up for our bars next?

Frequently Asked Questions About UFOs and UAPs

What is the difference between a UFO and a UAP?

UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object, while UAP stands for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. Government agencies increasingly use the term UAP because it covers a broader range of unexplained observations.

Did the government release UFO files in 2026?

Yes. Hundreds of documents related to UFO and UAP investigations were released publicly, including military reports, witness testimony summaries, analytical reviews, and sensor data.

Do the declassified UFO documents prove aliens exist?

No. While the files contain reports of unexplained events, they do not provide confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial life.

What are some of the most famous UFO cases?

Some of the most widely discussed UFO cases include the Betty and Barney Hill incident, the Roswell Incident, the Phoenix Lights, and numerous military pilot encounters documented by governments around the world.
