5 Tips for Staying Healthy During The Holidays
Tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry. It goes without saying that the Holidays go hand in hand with more travel, food and alcohol consumption, and more often than not, less exercise. We believe that it’s possible to have your cake (or BAR-U-EAT) and eat it too, and have composed a list of easy tips and tricks for staying healthy during the Holidays!
- Lower your alcohol consumption. Drinking less during the Holidays may be easier said than done. There are however some super tasty non alcoholic brews on the market like Athletic Brewing Run Wild IPA Craft Brew. At only 65 calories per 12 oz can, and with 0% alcohol, your body will thank you the next morning. Hoplark Citra is another super tasty non alcoholic drink we enjoy here at BAR-U-EAT. There are also plenty of Holiday mocktail recipes that will greatly reduce your overall alcohol, calorie and empty carb intake, yet taste great!

Exercise in the AM. It’s easier to exercise first thing in the morning than it is at the end of the day…we all know about the “I’ll go for a run at 5pm” idea…this plan looks great on paper, until work goes late, friends invite you to happy hour, and life gets in the way. If you plan to workout in the AM, there are no excuses. There are other health benefits as well - you’ll have more energy during the day, be in a better mood, sleep better, and will want to eat healthier…plus, it’s fun!
- Be consistent with health habits. Even if it means creating smaller and less intimidating goals, it’s better to do something healthy for 5-10 min a day, that it is once we week (or not at all). The 7 minute workout is an example of a very attainable goal that can be done daily, and pays out large dividends for 49 minutes a week (and there are over 10,000 minutes in a week by the way!). The 7 min workout follows the HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) format, which means it incorporates exercises that raise your heart rate, and also has ones that allows it to slow back down. It also also works all of your major muscle groups.

Get outdoors! Even if it’s a walk around the block, spend some time outside, breathe fresh air, stretch your legs, and enjoy your surroundings…
- Replace unhealthy snacks with BAR-U-EAT bars and bites. Whether you are road tripping, or flying, you'll be better off for for it by having an all natural snack on the go, instead of having to rely on gas station and convenient store food (processed sugar and artificial ingredients!).
